A completely natural and genuinely rare calcite specimen displaying the classic "pagoda" or "mushroom" growth habit typical of the Fengjiashan Mine: a second generation of highly lustrous scalenohedral calcite that grew over and enveloped an earlier scalenohedron, creating a striking tiered, tree-like architecture. The overgrowth is richly colored by brick-red hematite inclusions that contrast beautifully against the translucent to colorless calcite, while sharp, well-formed crystal faces catch the light with exceptional brilliance. A refined, high-end aesthetic piece equally suited to a serious mineral collection or an elegant display.

This is a completely natural, rare and truly important calcite specimen from the Fengjiashan Mine (also known as the Daye Copper Mine) in Hubei Province, China — one of the world's most celebrated localities for this distinctive style of calcite. The piece shows the classic two-stage growth typical of the finest Fengjiashan calcites: an initial scalenohedral crystal was subsequently overgrown by a second generation of calcite, which wraps around and caps the original crystal in a tiered, mushroom- or pagoda-like architecture that collectors prize highly. This second-generation surface is exceptionally lustrous, almost glassy, and is vividly marked by brick-red hematite inclusions that trace the growth zones of the crystal, producing a dramatic contrast against the paler, more translucent calcite beneath.

The crystal faces are sharp and well-defined, allowing the scalenohedral ("dogtooth") form and the successive growth striations to be clearly appreciated. The interplay of deep, saturated red tones against the bright luster of the calcite gives the specimen remarkable depth and three-dimensionality, an aesthetic quality that has made Fengjiashan hematite-included calcite a modern classic among Chinese mineral finds. Its rarity lies not only in the combination of colors and the specific growth style, but also in the size, the quality of crystallization, and the overall balance of the piece — qualities that make it an outstanding addition to any serious mineralogical collection, as well as a strikingly decorative object for refined display environments.
