For example, you can search by color such as green, yellow or purple, or by chemical elements such as uranium, calcium or iron, or by mineral groups such as phosphate, silicate or carbonate. You can also filter by crystal habit like crystal, geode or crystal on matrix, by specimen size such as thumbnail, small, medium or cabinet, and by features such as radioactive or fluorescent minerals.
Crocoite
Crocoite is a lead chromate mineral (PbCrO₄) famed for its brilliant hyacinth-red to orange-red, adamantine-lustered prismatic crystals — among the most vividly colored of all minerals. It forms where lead-rich hydrothermal fluids intersect chromium-bearing ultramafic host rock, a rare combination that makes fine crocoite genuinely scarce on the world stage.
The undisputed type locality for museum-grade crocoite is the Dundas mineral field near Zeehan in western Tasmania, Australia, especially the Adelaide Mine and Red Lead Mine on opposite slopes of Stichtite Hill, along with the historic Extended, West Comet and Platt workings. Recent finds such as the celebrated 2012 "Red River" pocket at the Adelaide Mine continue to supply the finest slender, hollow prisms in existence, and crocoite is fittingly Tasmania's official mineral emblem. Beyond Tasmania, notable but far less spectacular crocoite occurs at the Berezovsk deposit in the Ural Mountains of Russia (its original 18th-century discovery site), at Congonhas do Campo near Ouro Preto in Brazil, and in Luzon, the Philippines, Western Australia, and parts of Africa.
Prized for its saturated color, glassy luster and fragile acicular habit, top crocoite commands serious attention from mineral collectors and museums alike, often displayed alongside associated species like cerussite, pyromorphite and stichtite. Its light-sensitivity and brittleness make well-preserved Dundas specimens especially coveted.
