This is a fine Alpine specimen combining three mineral species in a single, harmonious piece: reddish hessonite garnet, green clinochlore, and diopside, all originating from Bellecombe in the Châtillon area of the Aosta Valley, Italy. Bellecombe is one of the most celebrated Italian localities for rodingite-hosted minerals, a rock type formed through the metasomatic alteration of basic dykes enclosed within serpentinized ultramafic bodies of the Western Alps.

The hessonite crystals, a reddish variety of grossular garnet, typically develop the rounded trapezohedral and dodecahedral faces characteristic of the garnet group, giving them a lustrous, gem-like appearance. Their warm red-orange tone stands in vivid contrast to the green clinochlore, a chlorite-group phyllosilicate that commonly forms flattened, pseudo-hexagonal plates or foliated aggregates coating and framing the garnet crystals. Diopside, a calcium-magnesium pyroxene, completes the association, generally occurring as short, stubby prismatic crystals with a pale to darker green color depending on iron content.

The combination of these three species on a single specimen is highly appreciated among collectors, as it captures the typical fissure-mineral paragenesis of the Bellecombe rodingites alongside classic associates such as vesuvianite and epidote. All three species formed together through late-Alpine rodingitization, a metasomatic process that altered basic dykes enclosed within serpentinized ultramafic rocks, generating the fissure cavities in which these well-formed crystals grew.

Fissure minerals from Bellecombe, including hessonite, vesuvianite, and diopside, have been documented in specialized mineralogical literature and remain highly sought after by collectors of Alpine minerals.
