This is a well-formed, doubly terminated crystal of Schorl — the black, iron-rich member of the Tourmaline group — displaying clean prismatic faces on both ends and the fine longitudinal striations typical of this species. The crystal's natural growth has produced a glossy, deep black surface with strong luster, allowing the trigonal symmetry and the individual crystal faces to be clearly appreciated.

The specimen comes from Araçuaí, in the northeastern part of Minas Gerais, Brazil — one of the classic pegmatite districts of the region, historically associated with the production of fine tourmaline, topaz and quartz crystals. Schorl from this area typically forms in granitic pegmatites, growing alongside quartz, feldspar and mica in slowly cooling, boron-enriched melts.

With its bold black color, sharp termination on both ends and good crystal habit, this piece suits both a mineralogical collection focused on the Tourmaline group and a display setting, thanks to its strong aesthetic presence.
