This is a large, richly associated specimen combining three classic species from the Xianghualing Sn-polymetallic ore field in Hunan Province, one of southern China's most productive and scientifically important skarn-type deposits. The main protagonists are gemmy, sea-green Fluorite crystals showing a distinctive cuboctahedral habit — cubes modified by octahedral faces — with a slightly frosted, sugary surface texture that diffuses light beautifully across the crystal faces while still allowing strong internal brilliance.

Perched among and beside the Fluorite are large, well-formed Calcite crystals with sharp edges and good transparency, contributing a pale, contrasting tone that highlights the saturated green of the Fluorite beneath. Both mineral generations rest on a base of Quartz, which forms the structural matrix of the piece and adds further sparkle and textural contrast to the overall composition.

The Xianghualing ore field is renowned among mineral collectors for producing some of the finest sea-green and olive-green Fluorite specimens in the world, frequently accompanied by lenticular or rhombic Calcite crystals exactly as seen here. The deposit remains an active area of mining and ongoing geological study, and fine multi-mineral combination pieces of this size and quality from this locality are increasingly difficult to source on the collector market.

This specimen brings together three distinct mineral species. Fluorite (calcium fluoride) is the dominant and most eye-catching component, forming translucent to gemmy cuboctahedral crystals — a combination of cube and octahedron faces that produces a faceted, jewel-like appearance. The green color seen here is typically attributed to structural color centers created by natural radiation exposure within the crystal lattice over geological time, a well-documented cause of green coloration in Fluorite from Chinese localities, though trace rare-earth element substitution can also play a contributing role in some deposits. Calcite (calcium carbonate) appears as large, well-formed, lenticular to rhombic crystals typical of this locality, while Quartz (silicon dioxide) forms the underlying matrix, adding sparkle and structural support to the assemblage. Fluorite from this locality, as with most Fluorite worldwide, is commonly UV-reactive; verifying fluorescence under a UV lamp on this specific piece is recommended for collectors interested in this feature.

The Xianghualing Sn-polymetallic ore field in Hunan Province is one of the most prolific and scientifically studied skarn deposits in China, formed where granite intrusions met Cambrian sandstones and Devonian carbonates along intersecting fault systems. The locality has even lent its name to a mineral species, hsianghualite, first described from this very ore field. More recently, researchers described chukochenite, an entirely new lithium oxyspinel mineral, from the Xianghualing skarn, underlining just how mineralogically rich and continually productive this Chinese locality remains for both collectors and scientists.

Green Fluorite is traditionally associated with balance, clarity of mind, and renewal, believed by some to support focus and emotional grounding, resonating with the heart chakra. Calcite is often linked to gentle amplification of energy and a sense of calm, while Quartz is widely regarded in crystal lore as a master healer capable of magnifying the properties of the minerals around it.
