This fluorite specimen is a superb example of one of the most distinctive fluorite finds to have emerged from China in recent years. Rather than forming as simple cubes or octahedra, the crystals have grown into dense, rounded, botryoidal-like clusters that appear spherical at first glance, yet close observation reveals that each sphere is actually composed of countless small octahedral individuals with softly curved triangular faces — an unusual and highly recognizable growth habit tied specifically to this locality in Zhejiang Province.

The color is a deep, glowing golden-honey yellow, with a wet, almost liquid luster that makes the crystal surfaces appear radiant under light. The fluorite has developed directly on a matrix of quartz, and the contrast between the pale, granular quartz base and the intensely colored, gemmy fluorite spheres gives the piece strong visual depth and three-dimensionality. The crystal formation is well developed and allows the individual curved faces and growth steps to be clearly appreciated, a testament to a slow and stable hydrothermal crystallization process.

The specimen comes from the Zhuji City area of Shaoxing Prefecture, Zhejiang Province — a region long known among collectors as one of China's most productive fluorite-bearing districts, with several hundred documented deposits. Its name derives from the Latin "fluere", meaning "to flow", a reference both to its use as a smelting flux and, indirectly, to the fluorescence phenomenon that was first described and named after this very species.

The vivid golden-yellow color displayed by this specimen is typically attributed to color centers within the crystal lattice — structural defects, such as electrons trapped in fluorine vacancies, generated through natural exposure to background radiation over geological time, sometimes combined with trace rare-earth element impurities substituting for calcium in the structure.
