This is a large, museum-quality cluster of naturally intergrown Calcite crystals displaying an intense combination of yellow, orange and white coloration. The specimen is formed by numerous well-developed crystals showing sharp, hexagonal-looking prismatic outlines typical of Calcite's trigonal symmetry, where flattened rhombohedral and scalenohedral faces combine to create a pseudo-hexagonal appearance. The crystal faces are bright and well defined, allowing the internal crystallization patterns and growth zoning to be clearly appreciated.

The interplay of golden-yellow, warm orange and contrasting white zones gives the piece an exceptional aesthetic impact, with the intricate intergrowth of crystals forming a dense, sculptural cluster rather than a single isolated crystal. The specimen comes from Chenzhou Prefecture in Hunan Province, China, a region that has produced some of the most celebrated Calcite finds of recent decades, including material from the Xianghualing and Leiping mining areas known for sharp, lustrous, and richly colored crystals. According to the seller, this particular find is relatively recent and still not widely known on the market, adding to its appeal as a distinctive and less common locality piece.

Calcite is the most stable and widespread polymorph of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) and one of the most common minerals in the Earth's crust. Pure Calcite is colorless or white, but the presence of trace transition metal ions frequently produces vivid coloration: in this specimen, the intense yellow and orange tones are caused by trace iron (and, in many Hunan specimens, minor manganese) substituting into the crystal lattice, with iron typically responsible for yellow-to-orange hues and contributing to the warm golden character of the piece, while the paler zones remain closer to the mineral's naturally colorless-to-white state.

Crystallographically, Calcite forms in the trigonal system, but its combination of rhombohedral, scalenohedral and prismatic crystal faces frequently produces crystals with a pseudo-hexagonal outline, which is why specimens like this are often described commercially as "hexagonal" Calcite. The well-defined, intergrown crystal faces visible on this cluster reflect a slow, undisturbed growth environment typical of open cavities within hydrothermal veins.

The specimen originates from the Chenzhou Prefecture of Hunan Province, China, a region hosting several polymetallic and tin-related ore deposits (including the well-known Xianghualing and Leiping mining areas) that have yielded some of the finest Calcite specimens found worldwide over the past two decades.
