Quartz from the Berezovo district forms within Alpine-type fissures in metamorphic host rock, a slow, high-pressure crystallization environment similar to that of the Swiss Alps, which also explains why this same region produces some of the world's finest gwindel quartz.

The phantom growth zones visible within these crystals formed when growth was briefly interrupted — often by a thin deposit of chlorite or other fine material settling on the crystal surface — before quartz growth resumed, encapsulating that earlier growth stage as a ghost-like outline within the final crystal. The chlorite inclusions themselves are a phyllosilicate group mineral, commonly introduced into the growing quartz from surrounding metamorphic fluids rich in iron and magnesium, giving the inclusions their characteristic green color.
