Exceptional natural Pyrite specimen from Navajún, La Rioja, Spain, one of the most famous pyrite localities in the world. This piece is characterized by perfectly developed cubic crystals with sharp edges and a strong metallic golden luster. The geometry of the cubes is well preserved and clearly visible, highlighting the natural symmetry typical of pyrite from this locality.

The specimen displays excellent crystallization quality, with clean crystal faces and a bright reflective surface that enhances its visual impact. Navajún pyrite is internationally renowned for producing some of the finest cubic pyrite crystals, making this specimen highly desirable for collectors and mineral enthusiasts.

Pyrite is an iron sulfide mineral with the chemical formula FeS₂. It belongs to the sulfide mineral class and crystallizes in the isometric (cubic) system. It commonly forms in sedimentary, metamorphic and hydrothermal environments under reducing conditions. The characteristic cubic habit is due to its internal crystal structure, which promotes highly symmetrical growth. Its metallic golden color results from its iron-sulfur composition and strong metallic bonding, giving it high reflectivity.

  • Chemical formula: FeS₂
  • Mineral class: Sulfides
  • Crystal system: Cubic (Isometric)
  • Formation: Sedimentary, metamorphic and hydrothermal environments
  • Key elements: Iron (Fe), Sulfur (S)
  • Crystal habit: Cubic crystals, intergrown cubes
  • Color: Brassy yellow, golden metallic

Navajún pyrite is so well crystallized that individual cubes can appear almost artificially cut, but they are entirely natural formations created during slow mineral growth in sedimentary rocks.

Pyrite is traditionally associated with protection, confidence and energy shielding. It is often considered a symbol of strength and vitality, used in symbolic practices to promote motivation and mental clarity.
