Natural Faden Quartz specimen from the alpine Bedretto Valley in Leventina, Canton Ticino, Switzerland. The crystal displays excellent transparency and well-formed natural crystal faces, with the characteristic internal Faden structure formed during interrupted crystal growth.

Faden Quartz is a special growth variety of Quartz characterized by a visible internal thread-like inclusion marking phases of crystal healing and regrowth during geological formation in alpine fissure environments.

The specimen combines clarity, structural interest, and alpine origin, making it highly appreciated among systematic and aesthetic mineral collectors.

Quartz is a silicate mineral composed of silicon dioxide with the chemical formula SiO₂. It belongs to the tectosilicate group and is one of the most abundant minerals in the Earth’s crust.

Faden Quartz is a structural variety of quartz characterized by a central thread-like inclusion formed during repeated fracture and healing processes in hydrothermal alpine fissures.

  • Chemical formula: SiO₂
  • Mineral class: Silicates
  • Crystal system: Trigonal
  • Formation: Hydrothermal alpine fissure environments with episodic crystal growth and self-healing fracture processes
  • Key elements: Silicon (Si), Oxygen (O)

Faden Quartz forms in alpine fissures where crystals repeatedly crack and heal while still growing, creating the distinctive internal “thread” (Faden) visible inside the crystal. These specimens are strongly associated with alpine tectonic activity and slow hydrothermal circulation, making them highly sought after by collectors for both beauty and geological significance.

Faden Quartz is traditionally considered a stone of alignment and energetic connection. In crystal healing traditions it is believed to support clarity of purpose, inner balance, and connection between different aspects of the self. It is also associated with emotional healing and strengthening personal direction during transitional phases. This specimen is primarily valued for its natural alpine formation and aesthetic clarity.
