A striking and highly unusual natural quartz crystal displaying the distinctive hopper (skeletal) growth form, in which the edges of the crystal grew faster than its faces, leaving recessed, window-like facets across its body. The crystal is doubly terminated, with one termination developing as a rare forked (bifurcated) point. The quartz itself is transparent, clearly revealing the natural reddish-brown clay inclusions suspended within — recalling the look of a gem-clear Herkimer-type quartz, but with a dense, striking internal inclusion pattern rarely seen in this combination. A genuinely one-of-a-kind, sculptural piece for advanced collectors.

This is a genuinely striking single quartz crystal exhibiting the rare and much sought-after hopper (skeletal) growth habit, also known among collectors as "fenster" quartz. Instead of growing as a solid, evenly-filled prism, the edges of this crystal advanced faster than the centers of its faces during formation, leaving recessed, window-like terraces that give the whole specimen a sculptural, almost architectural quality.

The crystal shows an excellent overall formation, allowing the geometry of its faces and edges to be clearly appreciated, and the body of the quartz is remarkably transparent. Within this transparency sit natural clay inclusions, which appear as soft reddish-brown veils and platelets trapped during the crystal's rapid growth. Rather than detracting from the piece, these inclusions are exactly what give it character: they scatter and reflect light internally, producing shifting, scenic effects as the specimen is turned in the hand — a feature that makes hopper quartz with clay so prized in systematic and aesthetic collections alike.

The specimen comes from Rocchetta Nervina, a small locality in the Nervia Valley, Imperia Province, in the Liguria region of north-western Italy, close to the French border. The crystals of this valley grow in centimeter- to decimeter-sized fissures within the sandstone banks of the Ventimiglia Flysch, a turbiditic formation where cracks generated by tectonic stress became filled with secondary clay — the same clay that was partially incorporated into the growing quartz, giving this locality's specimens their characteristic reddish inclusions.

This is a completely natural, untreated specimen, with no reported damage, offering strong mineralogical and display value for collectors seeking a genuine, well-formed Italian quartz with a distinctive growth story.
