This is a genuinely natural gypsum specimen from the Niccioleta Mine in Massa Marittima, Grosseto Province, Tuscany — a locality world-renowned among collectors primarily for its pyrite, but also capable of producing gemmy, transparent gypsum crystals of remarkable aesthetic quality. The centerpiece of this specimen is a brilliant, glassy gypsum crystal measuring 6.4 cm, notable for its clarity and sharp definition.

The true distinguishing feature of this piece is its iridescence: when tilted under light, the crystal surface displays flashes of pink and green, an angle-dependent optical phenomenon that makes each specimen visually unique. This effect, combined with the crystal's natural transparency, makes the piece as suitable for a refined mineralogical collection as it is for display in an elegant interior setting.

Tuscany's gypsum deposits, including those historically associated with the Niccioleta mining district, formed within ancient evaporitic sequences left behind by shallow marine basins that dried up over millions of years during the geological past of the region. The Niccioleta mine itself, once one of Italy's most important pyrite mines, has been closed for decades, which makes well-preserved crystallized specimens like this one increasingly difficult to source on the market.

No damage is reported on this specimen; it presents in fine natural condition.
