The hexagonal prismatic crystals display the characteristic barrel-like habit typical of the species, with faces catching the light in a resinous, almost waxy sheen that is a hallmark of fine Pyromorphite.

The piece originates from the Daoping Mine, a lead-zinc deposit in Gongcheng County, near Guilin, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of southern China. Since the early 2000s, this locality has become internationally renowned among mineral collectors for yielding some of the most saturated apple-green Pyromorphite specimens ever found, rivaling and in many cases surpassing the historic material once supplied by classic European localities. The contrast between the bright green crystals and the lighter quartz matrix is a signature feature that makes Daoping specimens instantly recognizable and highly desirable.

Pyromorphite is a secondary lead phosphate that forms in the oxidized zones of lead and zinc ore deposits, where percolating groundwater alters primary sulfide minerals such as galena into new phosphate and carbonate species. The vivid green color seen in this specimen is caused by trace impurities incorporated into the crystal lattice during growth; studies on green material of this kind have pointed to traces of iron, while other analyses attribute similar green hues in the species to minor copper content, so the exact cause can vary between localities. The crystals show the classic hexagonal prismatic, barrel-like habit typical of the pyromorphite-mimetite-vanadinite group, with faces that display a bright resinous to sub-adamantine luster. The association with a light-colored quartz matrix, as seen here, is a common feature at Daoping and enhances the visual contrast with the green crystals.
