This is a genuinely eye-catching composition of natural calcite from a new find in the Serrenti area of Sardinia, Italy. The specimen is built from numerous doubly-terminated, twinned calcite crystals stacked directly one on top of another, a growth arrangement that is uncommon and gives the piece an almost architectural, layered structure rather than the more typical single scalenohedral points seen in most calcite specimens.

The color is a cold, crisp white throughout, and several crystal faces show intense zones of glassy luster that catch and bounce light dramatically as the specimen is turned, producing lively internal reflections across the terminations. Under close inspection the crystal faces are crisp and well-defined, allowing the characteristic rhombohedral cleavage planes and contact-twin junctions to be clearly appreciated — a hallmark of well-formed, undamaged calcite growth.
