Hemimorphite is a hydrous zinc silicate belonging to the sorosilicate group. It commonly forms in the oxidation zones of zinc deposits where silica-rich solutions interact with zinc-bearing fluids, producing secondary mineral growth.

The mineral is well known for forming prismatic, bladed or radiating crystal aggregates, often with a vitreous to pearly luster. At the Ojuela Mine, Hemimorphite frequently develops in attractive clusters that are highly appreciated by collectors.
