This is an outstanding, completely natural Anglesite specimen from the world-famous Broken Hill Mine in New South Wales, Australia, one of the richest silver-lead-zinc deposits ever discovered. In its pure form, the mineral is essentially colorless to white, since lead and sulfate ions do not act as chromophores; any tint occasionally seen in anglesite from other localities is generally caused by trace impurities trapped within or on the crystal surface rather than by the mineral species itself. The crystals typically show a bright, adamantine to vitreous luster on well-formed faces, which is what gives fine Broken Hill specimens their notably brilliant, reflective appearance.

Anglesite crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, commonly forming tabular or short prismatic crystals with well-developed pyramidal terminations. Broken Hill, discovered in 1883, is one of the most important lead-zinc-silver deposits in the world, and while many of the original underground workings that produced the finest oxidized-zone specimens are now historic and no longer active, the broader mining district has continued operating in various forms for well over a century.
