This superb specimen showcases lustrous, snow-white celestine crystals in a striking double crystallization, developing outward in two directions across a vivid yellow sulfur matrix. The excellent natural formation reveals sharp, well-defined crystal faces, creating a beautiful chromatic contrast between the two species — a classic combination from the historic, now-closed La Grasta Mine near Caltanissetta, Sicily.

This is a genuinely eye-catching combination piece from one of Sicily's most celebrated mineral localities: sharp, translucent-to-opaque white celestine crystals rising from a base of intensely colored native sulfur. The celestine displays excellent natural growth, with well-formed prismatic faces and a double crystallization habit, meaning groups of crystals have developed in two distinct directions across the specimen, adding depth and dimensionality to the piece.

The contrast between the bright, snowy celestine and the saturated yellow of the sulfur matrix is the true highlight of this specimen, and it is entirely natural with no artificial enhancement. This pairing of celestine on sulfur is considered a true Italian classic, historically associated with the sulfur-mining district around Caltanissetta in central Sicily.

The specimen comes from the La Grasta Mine, a sulfur deposit worked from 1850 until operations definitively ceased in 1987. Like the rest of Sicily's once-vast sulfur mining industry, the mine is now permanently closed, making well-preserved combination specimens like this one increasingly difficult to source on today's market.

Measuring 64 x 38 x 37 mm and weighing 79 g, this small-cabinet specimen is well suited both for a serious systematic mineral collection and as a refined decorative accent in an elegantly lit display.
