Phantom zoning occurs when crystal growth is interrupted and later resumes, trapping earlier growth surfaces inside the crystal.

Double-terminated crystals form when a crystal grows freely in open space, allowing both ends to develop without attachment to a matrix. This indicates uninterrupted growth conditions within open cavities in the host rock.
