This exceptional Amethyst specimen hails from the famous gem-producing state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, one of the world's most important sources of natural amethyst. The piece is entirely natural and untreated, showcasing the deep, saturated violet color that has made Brazilian amethyst prized by collectors for generations.

What sets this specimen apart is its unusual bifacial crystallization: rather than displaying crystal growth on a single face attached to a matrix, this piece has developed well-formed amethyst crystals on both sides. This double-sided growth creates a sculptural, almost floating presence, allowing the specimen to be appreciated and displayed from multiple angles — a feature that is far less common than the typical single-face crystal plates usually seen on the market.

The individual crystal faces are sharply defined, with a harmonious, even growth pattern across the surface that speaks to a stable, undisturbed formation environment within the host rock cavity. The intense violet coloration is vivid and consistent across the piece, with the natural play of light across the crystal faces enhancing the depth of color when the specimen is properly illuminated.

Amethyst deposits in Minas Gerais are hosted within volcanic basalt formations, where large cavities and geodes provide the space for slow crystal growth over geological time. Mining in the region remains active today, with both artisanal and mechanized operations continuing to supply the global market, though pieces combining this size with genuine bifacial crystallization are considerably less frequently encountered than standard single-face specimens.

At over 37 cm across and weighing nearly 3.7 kg, this is a substantial museum-class piece, ideally suited to anchor a high-level mineralogical collection or serve as a bold decorative centerpiece in an exclusive interior setting.
