Australia contributes a unique collector form, the \u003cstrong\u003eazurite sun\u003c\/strong\u003e, flat radiating discs found almost exclusively at \u003cstrong\u003eBroken Hill\u003c\/strong\u003e, New South Wales, and the \u003cstrong\u003eMalbunka Copper Mine\u003c\/strong\u003e in the Northern Territory. Further notable occurrences come from Laurium in Greece, the Black Forest in Germany, Cornwall in England, Burra Burra in South Australia, the La Sal district in Utah, and the San Carlos Mine in Zacatecas, Mexico.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCollectors seek azurite for its unmatched saturated blue color, sharp prismatic and tabular crystal habits, and dramatic combinations with green malachite or red cuprite. Beyond the cabinet, azurite carries deep historical significance as a prized blue pigment ground by medieval and Renaissance artists for manuscript illumination and panel painting before ultramarine became widely available.
